Who We Are: The Potaholics Crew
We're a crew of amateur radio operators with a shared passion for a different kind of "pot": Portable Operations and Traveling. We are the activators and the chasers, the hikers and the home-based operators, united by the thrill of making contact across the country and around the globe. Our game of choice is HF (High Frequency) radio, and our playground is the great outdoors.
Our Mission: Get on the Air, Anywhere
The mission of The Potaholics Crew is simple: to get out and activate. We set up our portable HF radio stations in parks, on mountain summits, and in remote locations, all to make contact with fellow enthusiasts. Whether it's for a ZL on the Air (POTA,LOTA) or Summits on the Air (SOTA) activation, or just for the pure joy of it, we believe that the best radio is a radio you can take with you.
The Thrill of the Chase
Some of us are the "activators," lugging gear to beautiful and challenging locations to broadcast our signal. Others are the "chasers," the dedicated operators who listen for our calls, working from their home shacks or on the go to log a successful contact. The symbiotic relationship between the activator and the chaser is what makes this hobby so exciting. Every confirmed contact is a victory, a testament to the power of radio waves and the spirit of our community.

The Potaholics Crew was born from a simple idea: to bring together like-minded radio amateurs who love the freedom of portable operations. We started as a small group of friends and have since grown into a dedicated community. Our name is a tribute to our hobby—we're "addicted" to getting on the air from anywhere and everywhere.
